Amazing Prophecy in the Book of Daniel
One of the most amazing Prophecies in the entire Bible is recorded in the book of Daniel. This book was written around 500 years before Christ during the Babylonian Captivity.
The Angel Gabriel tells Daniel the exact day that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem on a donkey as the fulfillment of Zecharias prophecy (Zechariah 9:9 )about the coming King of the Jews, 500 years into the future.
Da 9:25 Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times.
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.
Understanding the terminology is crucial to understanding this prophecy
“Messiah” means the Anointed one, who the Jews were waiting for, to come and deliver them.
“Weeks” this term refers to a period of seven years, not seven 24 hour days in prophecy.
“Cut off” this means to be killed
This passage is saying that from the command to rebuild Jerusalem until the Messiah comes and is killed for his people there would be a period of 69 x 7 years
The ancient Hebrew Calendar was based on a 360 day, not a 365 day year like we have today. The Hebrew year was made up of 12 months, each having 30 days. This meant a 360 day year.
69 x 7 = 483 Hebrew years (from the commandment to the Messiah)
483 x 360 = 173,880 days (from the commandment to the Messiah)
To convert this number to our calendar we divide 173,880 days by 365 (the amount of days in our solar year)
173,880/365 = 476 years (according to our calendar)
From the Command to restore and build Jerusalem which was given on March 14th 445 BC, by the Persian King, Artaxerxes. ( Nehemiah 2 : 5 – 18 ) until Palm Sunday which was April 6th 32 AD ( Matthew 21 : 1 – 15 ) there are 173,880 days (476yrs) Exactly
Shortly after Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, he was Crucified ( Cut off, as the passage says) for the sins of the World.
Around 38 years after the Crucifixion, in AD 70, the City (Jerusalem) and the Sanctuary (the Temple) were Destroyed by the Roman Army according to the same passage of Scripture
This Proves the Divine Inspiration of the Bible, for Only God himself can Know the Future with such Amazing Accuracy
